Early blooming Hepatic nobilis on gypsum karst,
Avon Peninsula

Matt Smith forwarded these photos, taken on April 17, 2011. H. nobilis is red-listed (Critically Imperiled) in Nova Scotia. Flowering time is cited as early May in Roland's Flora of Nova Scotia, so this is an early bloom. The plants occur in the vicinity of a proposed gypsum mine.
